15 (A)Behold, I am bringing against you
    a nation from afar, O house of Israel,
declares the Lord.
It is an enduring nation;
    it is an ancient nation,
a nation whose language you do not know,
    (B)nor can you understand what they say.
16 (C)Their quiver is like (D)an open tomb;
    they are all mighty warriors.
17 (E)They shall eat up your harvest and your food;
    they shall eat up your sons and your daughters;
they shall eat up your flocks and your herds;
    they shall eat up your vines and your fig trees;
your (F)fortified cities in which you trust
    they shall beat down with the sword.”

22 Thus says the Lord:
(A)“Behold, a people is coming (B)from the north country,
    a great nation is stirring from (C)the farthest parts of the earth.
23 They lay hold on bow and javelin;
    they are (D)cruel and have no mercy;
    (E)the sound of them is like the roaring sea;
they ride on horses,
    set in array as a man for battle,
    against you, O daughter of Zion!”

26 He will (A)raise a signal for nations far away,
    and (B)whistle for them (C)from the ends of the earth;
and behold, quickly, speedily they come!
27 (D)None is weary, none stumbles,
    none slumbers or sleeps,
not a waistband is loose,
    not a sandal strap broken;
28 (E)their arrows are sharp,
    all their bows bent,
their horses' hoofs seem like flint,
    and their wheels (F)like the whirlwind.
29 Their roaring is like a lion,
    like young lions they roar;
they growl and (G)seize their prey;
    they carry it off, and none can rescue.
30 They will growl over it on that day,
    like the growling of the sea.
And if one looks to the land,
    behold, (H)darkness and distress;
and the light is darkened by its clouds.
