His possessions included seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys. He also had a very large retinue of servants. This man was the greatest of all the men of the East.

His sons would regularly arrange feasts, each one in his own house on his assigned day, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. When the days of the feast were complete, Job would send for them and consecrate[a] them. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them. Job would say, “Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed[b] God in their hearts.” Job did this regularly.

When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would make arrangements for them to be purified.(F) Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering(G) for each of them, thinking, “Perhaps my children have sinned(H) and cursed God(I) in their hearts.” This was Job’s regular custom.
