13 The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of (A)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:

14 “Declare in Egypt, and proclaim in (B)Migdol;
    proclaim in (C)Memphis and (D)Tahpanhes;
say, (E)‘Stand ready and be prepared,
    for (F)the sword shall devour around you.’
15 Why are your mighty ones face down?
    They do not stand[a]
    because the Lord thrust them down.
16 He made many stumble, (G)and they fell,
    and they said one to another,
‘Arise, and let us go back to our own people
    and to the land of our birth,
    (H)because of the sword of the oppressor.’
17 Call the name of (I)Pharaoh, king of Egypt,
    ‘Noisy one who lets the hour go by.’

18 (J)“As I live, declares the King,
    (K)whose name is the Lord of hosts,
like (L)Tabor among the mountains
    and like (M)Carmel by the sea, shall one come.
19 (N)Prepare yourselves baggage for exile,
    O (O)inhabitants of Egypt!
For (P)Memphis shall become a waste,
    a ruin, (Q)without inhabitant.

20 “A beautiful (R)heifer is Egypt,
    but a biting fly (S)from the north has come upon her.
21 Even her hired soldiers in her midst
    are like (T)fattened calves;
yes, they have turned and fled together;
    they did not stand,
for the day of their calamity has come upon them,
    (U)the time of their punishment.

22 “She makes (V)a sound like a serpent gliding away;
    for her enemies march in force
and come against her with axes
    (W)like those who fell trees.
23 (X)They shall cut down her forest,
declares the Lord,
    though it is impenetrable,
because (Y)they are more numerous than locusts;
    they are without number.
24 The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame;
    she shall be delivered into the hand of (Z)a people from the north.”

25 The Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, said: “Behold, I am bringing punishment upon (AA)Amon of (AB)Thebes, and Pharaoh and Egypt (AC)and her gods and her kings, upon Pharaoh and those who trust in him. 26 (AD)I will deliver them into the hand of those who seek their life, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and his officers. (AE)Afterward Egypt shall be inhabited (AF)as in the days of old, declares the Lord.

  1. Jeremiah 46:15 Hebrew He does not stand

13 This is the message the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon(A) to attack Egypt:(B)

14 “Announce this in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol;
    proclaim it also in Memphis(C) and Tahpanhes:(D)
‘Take your positions and get ready,
    for the sword devours(E) those around you.’
15 Why will your warriors be laid low?
    They cannot stand, for the Lord will push them down.(F)
16 They will stumble(G) repeatedly;
    they will fall(H) over each other.
They will say, ‘Get up, let us go back
    to our own people(I) and our native lands,
    away from the sword of the oppressor.’(J)
17 There they will exclaim,
    ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt is only a loud noise;(K)
    he has missed his opportunity.(L)

18 “As surely as I live,” declares the King,(M)
    whose name is the Lord Almighty,
“one will come who is like Tabor(N) among the mountains,
    like Carmel(O) by the sea.
19 Pack your belongings for exile,(P)
    you who live in Egypt,
for Memphis(Q) will be laid waste(R)
    and lie in ruins without inhabitant.

20 “Egypt is a beautiful heifer,
    but a gadfly is coming
    against her from the north.(S)
21 The mercenaries(T) in her ranks
    are like fattened calves.(U)
They too will turn and flee(V) together,
    they will not stand their ground,
for the day(W) of disaster is coming upon them,
    the time(X) for them to be punished.
22 Egypt will hiss like a fleeing serpent
    as the enemy advances in force;
they will come against her with axes,
    like men who cut down trees.(Y)
23 They will chop down her forest,”
declares the Lord,
    “dense though it be.
They are more numerous than locusts,(Z)
    they cannot be counted.
24 Daughter Egypt will be put to shame,
    given into the hands of the people of the north.(AA)

25 The Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: “I am about to bring punishment on Amon god of Thebes,(AB) on Pharaoh,(AC) on Egypt and her gods(AD) and her kings, and on those who rely(AE) on Pharaoh. 26 I will give them into the hands(AF) of those who want to kill them—Nebuchadnezzar king(AG) of Babylon and his officers. Later, however, Egypt will be inhabited(AH) as in times past,” declares the Lord.

Prophecy Against Egypt

29 (A)In the tenth year, in the tenth month, on the twelfth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: (B)“Son of man, (C)set your face against (D)Pharaoh king of Egypt, (E)and prophesy against him and (F)against all Egypt; speak, and say, Thus says the Lord God:

(G)“Behold, I am against you,
    Pharaoh king of Egypt,
(H)the great dragon that lies
    in the midst of his streams,
(I)that says, ‘My Nile is my own;
    I made it for myself.’
I will (J)put hooks in your jaws,
    and make the fish of your streams stick to your scales;
and I will draw you up out of the midst of your streams,
    with all the fish of your streams
    that stick to your scales.
(K)And I will cast you out into the wilderness,
    you and all the fish of your streams;
you shall fall (L)on the open field,
    and (M)not be brought together or gathered.
To the beasts of the earth and to the birds of the heavens
    (N)I give you as food.

Then all the inhabitants of Egypt (O)shall know that I am the Lord.

“Because you[a] have been (P)a staff of reed to the house of Israel, (Q)when they grasped you with the hand, you broke and tore all their shoulders; and when they leaned on you, you broke and made all their loins to shake.[b] Therefore thus says the Lord God: (R)Behold, I will bring a sword upon you, and will cut off from you man and beast, and the land of Egypt shall be a desolation and a waste. (S)Then they will know that I am the Lord.

(T)“Because you[c] said, ‘The Nile is mine, and I made it,’ 10 therefore, (U)behold, I am against you and (V)against your streams, and (W)I will make the land of Egypt an utter waste and desolation, (X)from Migdol to Syene, as far as the border of Cush. 11 (Y)No foot of man shall pass through it, and no foot of beast shall pass through it; it shall be uninhabited forty years. 12 (Z)And I will make the land of Egypt a desolation in the midst of desolated countries, and her cities shall be a desolation forty years among cities that are laid waste. (AA)I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and disperse them through the countries.

13 “For thus says the Lord God: At the end of forty years (AB)I will gather the Egyptians from the peoples among whom they were scattered, 14 and (AC)I will restore the fortunes of Egypt and bring them back to (AD)the land of Pathros, the land of their origin, and there they shall be a lowly kingdom. 15 It shall be the most lowly of the kingdoms, (AE)and never again exalt itself above the nations. And I will make them so small that they will never again rule over the nations. 16 And it shall never again be (AF)the reliance of the house of Israel, recalling their iniquity, when they turn to them for aid. (AG)Then they will know that I am the Lord God.”

17 (AH)In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 18 (AI)“Son of man, (AJ)Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor hard against Tyre. Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was rubbed bare, yet neither he nor his army got anything from Tyre to pay for the labor that he had performed against her. 19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: (AK)Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; (AL)and he shall carry off its wealth[d] (AM)and despoil it and plunder it; and it shall be the wages for his army. 20 (AN)I have given him the land of Egypt as his payment for which he labored, because they worked for me, declares the Lord God.

21 “On that day (AO)I will cause a horn to spring up for the house of Israel, and (AP)I will open your lips among them. (AQ)Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

A Lament for Egypt

30 The word of the Lord came to me: (AR)“Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus says the Lord God:

(AS)“Wail, ‘Alas for the day!’
    (AT)For the day is near,
    (AU)the day of the Lord is near;
it will be (AV)a day of clouds,
    a time of doom for[e] the nations.
(AW)A sword shall come upon Egypt,
    (AX)and anguish shall be in (AY)Cush,
when the slain fall in Egypt,
    and (AZ)her wealth[f] is carried away,
    and (BA)her foundations are torn down.

(BB)Cush, and (BC)Put, and Lud, and (BD)all Arabia, and Libya,[g] and the people of the land that is in league,[h] shall fall with them by the sword.

“Thus says the Lord:
(BE)Those who support Egypt shall fall,
    and (BF)her proud might shall come down;
(BG)from Migdol to Syene
    they shall fall within her by the sword,
declares the Lord God.
(BH)And they shall be desolated in the midst of desolated countries,
    and their cities shall be in the midst of cities that are laid waste.
(BI)Then they will know that I am the Lord,
    when (BJ)I have set fire to Egypt,
    and (BK)all her helpers are broken.

“On that day (BL)messengers shall go out from me in ships to terrify the unsuspecting (BM)people of Cush, and (BN)anguish shall come upon them on the day of Egypt's doom;[i] for, behold, it comes!

10 “Thus says the Lord God:

(BO)“I will put an end to the wealth of Egypt,
    by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
11 He and his people with him, (BP)the most ruthless of nations,
    shall be brought in to destroy the land,
(BQ)and they shall draw their swords against Egypt
    and fill the land with the slain.
12 And (BR)I will (BS)dry up the Nile
    and will sell the land into the hand of (BT)evildoers;
(BU)I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it,
    by the hand of (BV)foreigners;
(BW)I am the Lord; I have spoken.

13 “Thus says the Lord God:

(BX)“I will destroy the idols
    and put an end to the images in (BY)Memphis;
(BZ)there shall no longer be a prince from the land of Egypt;
    so (CA)I will put fear in the land of Egypt.
14 I will make (CB)Pathros a desolation
    and will set fire to (CC)Zoan
    (CD)and will execute judgments on (CE)Thebes.
15 And I will pour out my wrath on Pelusium,
    the stronghold of Egypt,
    and cut off the multitude[j] of Thebes.
16 And I will set fire to Egypt;
    Pelusium shall be in great agony;
Thebes shall be breached,
    and (CF)Memphis shall face enemies[k] by day.
17 The young men of On and of Pi-beseth shall fall by the sword,
    and the women[l] shall go into captivity.
18 At (CG)Tehaphnehes (CH)the day shall be dark,
    when I break there the yoke bars of Egypt,
and (CI)her proud might shall come to an end in her;
    she shall be covered by a cloud,
    and her daughters shall go into captivity.
19 Thus (CJ)I will execute judgments on Egypt.
    (CK)Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

Egypt Shall Fall to Babylon

20 (CL)In the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 21 (CM)“Son of man, (CN)I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and behold, (CO)it has not been bound up, to heal it by binding it with a bandage, so that it may become strong to wield the sword. 22 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt and (CP)will break his arms, both the strong arm and the one that was broken, and I will make the sword fall from his hand. 23 (CQ)I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them through the countries. 24 And (CR)I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put (CS)my sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan before him (CT)like a man mortally wounded. 25 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh shall fall. (CU)Then they shall know that I am the Lord, (CV)when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt. 26 And I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations and disperse them throughout the countries. Then they will know that I am the Lord.”

Pharaoh to Be Slain

31 (CW)In the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: (CX)“Son of man, say to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to (CY)his multitude:

(CZ)“Whom are you like in your greatness?

A Prophecy Against Egypt

Judgment on Pharaoh

29 In the tenth year, in the tenth month on the twelfth day, the word of the Lord came to me:(A) “Son of man, set your face against(B) Pharaoh king of Egypt(C) and prophesy against him and against all Egypt.(D) Speak to him and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘I am against you, Pharaoh(E) king of Egypt,
    you great monster(F) lying among your streams.
You say, “The Nile(G) belongs to me;
    I made it for myself.”
But I will put hooks(H) in your jaws
    and make the fish of your streams stick to your scales.
I will pull you out from among your streams,
    with all the fish sticking to your scales.(I)
I will leave you in the desert,
    you and all the fish of your streams.
You will fall on the open field
    and not be gathered(J) or picked up.
I will give you as food
    to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the sky.(K)

Then all who live in Egypt will know that I am the Lord.

“‘You have been a staff of reed(L) for the people of Israel. When they grasped you with their hands, you splintered(M) and you tore open their shoulders; when they leaned on you, you broke and their backs were wrenched.[a](N)

“‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will bring a sword against you and kill both man and beast.(O) Egypt will become a desolate wasteland. Then they will know that I am the Lord.

“‘Because you said, “The Nile(P) is mine; I made it,(Q) 10 therefore I am against you(R) and against your streams, and I will make the land of Egypt(S) a ruin and a desolate waste(T) from Migdol(U) to Aswan,(V) as far as the border of Cush.[b](W) 11 The foot of neither man nor beast will pass through it; no one will live there for forty years.(X) 12 I will make the land of Egypt desolate(Y) among devastated lands, and her cities will lie desolate forty years among ruined cities. And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries.(Z)

13 “‘Yet this is what the Sovereign Lord says: At the end of forty years I will gather the Egyptians from the nations where they were scattered. 14 I will bring them back from captivity and return them to Upper Egypt,(AA) the land of their ancestry. There they will be a lowly(AB) kingdom.(AC) 15 It will be the lowliest of kingdoms and will never again exalt itself above the other nations.(AD) I will make it so weak that it will never again rule over the nations. 16 Egypt will no longer be a source of confidence(AE) for the people of Israel but will be a reminder(AF) of their sin in turning to her for help.(AG) Then they will know that I am the Sovereign Lord.(AH)’”

Nebuchadnezzar’s Reward

17 In the twenty-seventh year, in the first month on the first day, the word of the Lord came to me:(AI) 18 “Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar(AJ) king of Babylon drove his army in a hard campaign against Tyre; every head was rubbed bare(AK) and every shoulder made raw.(AL) Yet he and his army got no reward from the campaign he led against Tyre. 19 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am going to give Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king(AM) of Babylon, and he will carry off its wealth. He will loot and plunder(AN) the land as pay for his army.(AO) 20 I have given him Egypt(AP) as a reward for his efforts because he and his army did it for me, declares the Sovereign Lord.(AQ)

21 “On that day I will make a horn[c](AR) grow for the Israelites, and I will open your mouth(AS) among them. Then they will know that I am the Lord.(AT)

I the Lord have spoken.

13 “‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

Pharaoh’s Arms Are Broken

20 In the eleventh year, in the first month on the seventh day, the word of the Lord came to me:(CF) 21 “Son of man, I have broken the arm(CG) of Pharaoh(CH) king of Egypt. It has not been bound up to be healed(CI) or put in a splint so that it may become strong enough to hold a sword. 22 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt.(CJ) I will break both his arms, the good arm as well as the broken one, and make the sword fall from his hand.(CK) 23 I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries.(CL) 24 I will strengthen(CM) the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword(CN) in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will groan(CO) before him like a mortally wounded man. 25 I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, but the arms of Pharaoh will fall limp. A Lament over Pharaoh and Egypt

32 (H)In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: (I)“Son of man, (J)raise a lamentation over (K)Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him:

“You consider yourself (L)a lion of the nations,
    but you are like (M)a dragon (N)in the seas;
(O)you burst forth in your rivers,
    trouble the waters with your feet,
    and foul their rivers.
Thus says the Lord God:
    (P)I will throw my net over you
    with a host of (Q)many peoples,
    and (R)they will haul you up in my dragnet.
And (S)I will cast you on the ground;
    on the open field I will fling you,
and will cause all the birds of the heavens to settle on you,
    and I will gorge the beasts of the whole earth with you.
I will strew your flesh (T)upon the mountains
    and fill the valleys with your carcass.[a]
I will drench the land even to the mountains
    with your flowing blood,
    and the ravines will be full of you.
(U)When I blot you out, (V)I will cover the heavens
    and make their stars dark;
I will cover the sun with a cloud,
    and the moon shall not give its light.
All the bright lights of heaven
    will I make dark over you,
    and (W)put darkness on your land,
declares the Lord God.

“I will trouble the hearts of many peoples, when I bring your destruction among the nations, into the countries that you have not known. 10 (X)I will make many peoples appalled at you, and the hair of their kings shall bristle with horror because of you, when (Y)I brandish my sword before them. (Z)They shall tremble every moment, every one for his own life, on the day of your downfall.

11 “For thus says the Lord God: (AA)The sword of the king of Babylon shall come upon you. 12 I will cause (AB)your multitude to fall by the swords of mighty ones, all of them (AC)most ruthless of nations.

(AD)“They shall bring to ruin the pride of Egypt,
    and all its multitude[b] shall perish.
13 I will destroy all its beasts
    from beside many waters;
(AE)and no foot of man shall trouble them anymore,
    nor shall the hoofs of beasts trouble them.
14 Then (AF)I will make their waters clear,
    and cause their rivers to run like oil,
declares the Lord God.
15 When I make the land of Egypt desolate,
    and when the land (AG)is desolate of all that fills it,
when I strike down all who dwell in it,
    then (AH)they will know that I am the Lord.

16 (AI)This is a lamentation that shall be chanted; the daughters of the nations shall chant it; over Egypt, and over (AJ)all her multitude, shall they chant it, declares the Lord God.”

17 (AK)In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month,[c] on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me: 18 (AL)“Son of man, (AM)wail over (AN)the multitude of Egypt, and (AO)send them down, her and the daughters of majestic nations, (AP)to the world below, to those who have gone down to the pit:

19 (AQ)‘Whom do you surpass in beauty?
    Go down and (AR)be laid to rest with the uncircumcised.’

20 They shall fall amid those (AS)who are slain by the sword. Egypt[d] is delivered to the sword; drag her away, and (AT)all her multitudes. 21 The mighty chiefs (AU)shall speak of them, (AV)with their helpers, out of the midst of Sheol: ‘They have come down, they lie still, (AW)the uncircumcised, (AX)slain by the sword.’

22 (AY)“Assyria is there, and all her company, (AZ)its graves all around it, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, 23 whose graves are set in (BA)the uttermost parts of the pit; and her company is all around her grave, all of them slain, fallen by the sword, (BB)who spread terror (BC)in the land of the living.

24 (BD)“Elam is (BE)there, and all her multitude around her grave; all of them (BF)slain, fallen by the sword, who went down uncircumcised into (BG)the world below, who spread their terror in the land of the living; and (BH)they bear their shame (BI)with those who go down to the pit. 25 (BJ)They have made her a bed among the slain with all her multitude, (BK)her graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for terror of them was spread in the land of the living, and they bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are placed among the slain.

26 (BL)“Meshech-Tubal is (BM)there, and all her multitude, (BN)her graves all around it, all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword; for they spread their terror in the land of the living. 27 And (BO)they do not lie with the mighty, the fallen from among the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with their weapons of war, whose swords were laid under their heads, and whose iniquities are upon their bones; for the terror of the mighty men was in the land of the living. 28 But as for you, you shall be broken (BP)and lie among the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword.

29 (BQ)“Edom is (BR)there, her kings and all her princes, who for all their might are laid with those who are killed by the sword; they lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the pit.

30 “The princes (BS)of the north are there, all of them, and all the (BT)Sidonians, who have gone down in shame with the slain, (BU)for all the terror that they caused by their might; they lie uncircumcised with those who are slain by the sword, and (BV)bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.

31 “When Pharaoh sees them, he (BW)will be comforted for (BX)all his multitude, Pharaoh and all his army, slain by the sword, declares the Lord God. 32 (BY)For I spread terror (BZ)in the land of the living; and he shall be laid to rest among (CA)the uncircumcised, with those who are slain by the sword, Pharaoh and all his multitude, declares the Lord God.”

A Lament Over Pharaoh

32 In the twelfth year, in the twelfth month on the first day, the word of the Lord came to me:(B) “Son of man, take up a lament(C) concerning Pharaoh king of Egypt and say to him:

“‘You are like a lion(D) among the nations;
    you are like a monster(E) in the seas(F)
thrashing about in your streams,
    churning the water with your feet
    and muddying the streams.(G)

“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘With a great throng of people
    I will cast my net over you,
    and they will haul you up in my net.(H)
I will throw you on the land
    and hurl you on the open field.
I will let all the birds of the sky settle on you
    and all the animals of the wild gorge themselves on you.(I)
I will spread your flesh on the mountains
    and fill the valleys(J) with your remains.
I will drench the land with your flowing blood(K)
    all the way to the mountains,
    and the ravines will be filled with your flesh.(L)
When I snuff you out, I will cover the heavens
    and darken their stars;
I will cover the sun with a cloud,
    and the moon will not give its light.(M)
All the shining lights in the heavens
    I will darken(N) over you;
    I will bring darkness over your land,(O)
declares the Sovereign Lord.
I will trouble the hearts of many peoples
    when I bring about your destruction among the nations,
    among[a] lands you have not known.
10 I will cause many peoples to be appalled at you,
    and their kings will shudder with horror because of you
    when I brandish my sword(P) before them.
On the day(Q) of your downfall
    each of them will tremble
    every moment for his life.(R)

11 “‘For this is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘The sword(S) of the king of Babylon(T)
    will come against you.(U)
12 I will cause your hordes to fall
    by the swords of mighty men—
    the most ruthless of all nations.(V)
They will shatter the pride of Egypt,
    and all her hordes will be overthrown.(W)
13 I will destroy all her cattle
    from beside abundant waters
no longer to be stirred by the foot of man
    or muddied by the hooves of cattle.(X)
14 Then I will let her waters settle
    and make her streams flow like oil,
declares the Sovereign Lord.
15 When I make Egypt desolate
    and strip the land of everything in it,
when I strike down all who live there,
    then they will know that I am the Lord.(Y)

16 “This is the lament(Z) they will chant for her. The daughters of the nations will chant it; for Egypt and all her hordes they will chant it, declares the Sovereign Lord.”

Egypt’s Descent Into the Realm of the Dead

17 In the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, the word of the Lord came to me:(AA) 18 “Son of man, wail for the hordes of Egypt and consign(AB) to the earth below both her and the daughters of mighty nations, along with those who go down to the pit.(AC) 19 Say to them, ‘Are you more favored than others? Go down and be laid among the uncircumcised.’(AD) 20 They will fall among those killed by the sword. The sword is drawn; let her be dragged(AE) off with all her hordes.(AF) 21 From within the realm of the dead(AG) the mighty leaders will say of Egypt and her allies, ‘They have come down and they lie with the uncircumcised,(AH) with those killed by the sword.’

22 “Assyria is there with her whole army; she is surrounded by the graves of all her slain, all who have fallen by the sword. 23 Their graves are in the depths of the pit(AI) and her army lies around her grave.(AJ) All who had spread terror in the land of the living are slain, fallen by the sword.

24 “Elam(AK) is there, with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are slain, fallen by the sword.(AL) All who had spread terror in the land of the living(AM) went down uncircumcised to the earth below. They bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.(AN) 25 A bed is made for her among the slain, with all her hordes around her grave. All of them are uncircumcised,(AO) killed by the sword. Because their terror had spread in the land of the living, they bear their shame with those who go down to the pit; they are laid among the slain.

26 “Meshek and Tubal(AP) are there, with all their hordes around their graves. All of them are uncircumcised, killed by the sword because they spread their terror in the land of the living. 27 But they do not lie with the fallen warriors of old,[b](AQ) who went down to the realm of the dead with their weapons of war—their swords placed under their heads and their shields[c] resting on their bones—though these warriors also had terrorized the land of the living.

28 “You too, Pharaoh, will be broken and will lie among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword.

29 “Edom(AR) is there, her kings and all her princes; despite their power, they are laid with those killed by the sword. They lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the pit.(AS)

30 “All the princes of the north(AT) and all the Sidonians(AU) are there; they went down with the slain in disgrace despite the terror caused by their power. They lie uncircumcised(AV) with those killed by the sword and bear their shame with those who go down to the pit.(AW)

31 “Pharaoh—he and all his army—will see them and he will be consoled(AX) for all his hordes that were killed by the sword, declares the Sovereign Lord. 32 Although I had him spread terror in the land of the living, Pharaoh(AY) and all his hordes will be laid among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword, declares the Sovereign Lord.”(AZ)
