⁴In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men.

John 1:4

New International Version

⁴In him was life,^(A) and that life was the light^(B) of all mankind.

⁴In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

⁹There it was—the true Light [the genuine, perfect, steadfast Light] which, coming into the world, enlightens everyone.^(A)

⁹The true light^(A) that gives light to everyone^(B) was coming into the world.

⁹That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
