¹¹ “I am the good shepherd.^(A) The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.^(B)

¹⁴ “I am the good shepherd. I know My own sheep, and they know Me,

¹⁷ This is why the Father loves Me,^(A) because I am laying down My life^(B) so I may take it up again. ¹⁸ No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down on My own. I have the right to lay it down, and I have the right to take it up again. I have received this command from My Father.”^(C)

³⁷ “Lord,” Peter asked, “why can’t I follow You now? I will lay down my life^(A) for You!”^(B)

³⁸ Jesus replied, “Will you lay down your life for Me? I assure you: A rooster will not crow until you have denied Me three times.

¹³ No one has greater love than this, that someone would lay down his life^(A) for his friends.
