John 11:38-40

GOD’S WORD Translation

³⁸Deeply moved again, Jesus went to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone covering the entrance. ³⁹Jesus said, “Take the stone away.”

Martha, the dead man’s sister, told Jesus, “Lord, there must already be a stench. He’s been dead for four days.”

⁴⁰Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believe, you would see God’s glory?”

³⁸Jesus, once more deeply moved,^(A) came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.^(B) ³⁹“Take away the stone,” he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”^(C)

⁴⁰Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,^(D) you will see the glory of God?”^(E)
