John 11:38-40

New Living Translation

³⁸Jesus was still angry as he arrived at the tomb, a cave with a stone rolled across its entrance. ³⁹“Roll the stone aside,” Jesus told them.

But Martha, the dead man’s sister, protested, “Lord, he has been dead for four days. The smell will be terrible.”

⁴⁰Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?”

³⁸Jesus, once more deeply moved,^(A) came to the tomb. It was a cave with a stone laid across the entrance.^(B) ³⁹“Take away the stone,” he said.

“But, Lord,” said Martha, the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.”^(C)

⁴⁰Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe,^(D) you will see the glory of God?”^(E)
