Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

36 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?”

Jesus answered him, “Where I (A)am going you cannot follow Me now, but (B)you shall follow Me afterward.”

37 Peter said to Him, “Lord, why can I not follow You now? I will (C)lay down my life for Your sake.”

38 Jesus answered him, “Will you lay down your life for My sake? Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not (D)crow till you have denied Me three times.

The Way, the Truth, and the Life

14 “Let (E)not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many [a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. (F)I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, (G)I will come again and receive you to Myself; that (H)where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.”

(I)Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am (J)the way, (K)the truth, and (L)the life. (M)No one comes to the Father (N)except through Me.

The Father Revealed

(O)“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”

Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? (P)He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that (Q)I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you (R)I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, (S)or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.

The Answered Prayer

12 (T)“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 (U)And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be (V)glorified in the Son. 14 If you [c]ask anything in My name, I will do it.

37 Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

38 Then Jesus answered, “Will you really lay down your life for me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times!(D)

Jesus Comforts His Disciples

14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled.(E) You believe(F) in God[a];(G) believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there(H) to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back(I) and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.(J) You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus the Way to the Father

Thomas(K) said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

Jesus answered, “I am(L) the way(M) and the truth(N) and the life.(O) No one comes to the Father except through me.(P) If you really know me, you will know[b] my Father as well.(Q) From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”

Philip(R) said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”

Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.(S) How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?(T) The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority.(U) Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves.(V) 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes(W) in me will do the works I have been doing,(X) and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask(Y) in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
