³ This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only^(A) true^(B) God, and the one you have sent^(C) —Jesus Christ.^(D)

⁸ More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value^(A) of knowing Christ^(B) Jesus my Lord. Because of him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them as dung, so that I may gain Christ^(C)

Growth in the Faith

³ His^[a] divine power^(A) has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge^(B) of him who called^(C) us by^[b] his own glory and goodness.

⁸ For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being useless^(A) or unfruitful^(B) in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

²⁰ For if, having escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of the Lord^[a] and Savior Jesus Christ,^(A) they are again entangled in these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first.^(B)
