29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there; so (A)they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a branch of hyssop and brought it up to His mouth. 30 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, (B)It is finished!” And He bowed His head and (C)gave up His spirit.

40 (D)Now there were also some women watching from a distance, among whom were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of [f]James (E)the [g]Less and Joses, and (F)Salome. 41 When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and (G)serve Him; and there were many other women who came up with Him to Jerusalem.

Jesus Is Buried

42 (H)When evening had already come, since it was (I)the preparation day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, 43 Joseph of Arimathea came, a (J)prominent member of the Council, who was himself also (K)waiting for the kingdom of God; and he (L)gathered up courage and went in before Pilate, and asked for the body of Jesus. 44 Now Pilate wondered if He was dead by this time, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was already dead. 45 And after learning this from (M)the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph. 46 Joseph bought a linen cloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linen cloth, and laid Him in a tomb which had been cut out in the rock; and he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb. 47 (N)Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were watching to see where He was laid.

40 Some women were watching from a distance.(F) Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph,[b] and Salome.(G) 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.(H)

The Burial of Jesus(I)

42 It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath).(J) So as evening approached, 43 Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council,(K) who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God,(L) went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body. 44 Pilate was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked him if Jesus had already died. 45 When he learned from the centurion(M) that it was so, he gave the body to Joseph. 46 So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in the linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb.(N) 47 Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joseph(O) saw where he was laid.
