36 For these things came to pass, [a]that the scripture might be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be [b]broken. 37 And again another scripture saith, [c]They shall look on him whom they pierced.
38 And after these things Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took away his body.

36 These things happened so that the scripture would be fulfilled:(A) “Not one of his bones will be broken,”[a](B) 37 and, as another scripture says, “They will look on the one they have pierced.”[b](C)

38 Later, Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate for the body of Jesus. Now Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly because he feared the Jewish leaders.(E) With Pilate’s permission, he came and took the body away.
