¹⁹ Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”^(A)

²⁰ They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” ²¹ But the temple he had spoken of was his body.^{(B) 22} After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.^(C) Then they believed the scripture^(D) and the words that Jesus had spoken.

¹⁴ Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness,^(A) so the Son of Man must be lifted up,^[a](B)

⁶ Therefore Jesus told them, “My time^(A) is not yet here; for you any time will do. ⁷ The world cannot hate you, but it hates me^(B) because I testify that its works are evil.^{(C) 8} You go to the festival. I am not^[a] going up to this festival, because my time^(D) has not yet fully come.”

³³ Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time,^(A) and then I am going to the one who sent me.^{(B) 34} You will look for me, but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come.”^(C)

²⁰ He spoke these words while teaching^(A) in the temple courts near the place where the offerings were put.^(B) Yet no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come.^(C)

Dispute Over Who Jesus Is

²¹ Once more Jesus said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die^(D) in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come.”^(E)
