37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, (A)has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, (B)nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 (C)You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and (D)these are they which testify of Me. 40 (E)But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

39 [a]You search and keep on searching and examining the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and yet it is those [very Scriptures] that testify about Me; 40 and still you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.
