³³ Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time,^(A) and then I am going to the one who sent me.^(B)

¹⁴ Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going.^(A) But you have no idea where I come from^(B) or where I am going.

Dispute Over Who Jesus Is

²¹ Once more Jesus said to them, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die^(A) in your sin. Where I go, you cannot come.”^(B)

²² This made the Jews ask, “Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, ‘Where I go, you cannot come’?”

³ Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power,^(A) and that he had come from God^(B) and was returning to God;

³³ “My children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.^(A)

³⁶ Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?”^(A)

Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now,^(B) but you will follow later.”^(C)

⁴ You know the way to the place where I am going.”

Jesus the Way to the Father

⁵ Thomas^(A) said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”

²⁸ “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’^(A) If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father,^(B) for the Father is greater than I.^(C)

¹⁰ about righteousness,^(A) because I am going to the Father,^(B) where you can see me no longer;

¹⁷ At this, some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’^(A) and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?”^(B)
