Dispute Over Jesus’ Testimony

¹² When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am^(A) the light of the world.^(B) Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”^(C)

⁴⁶ I have come into the world as a light,^(A) so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

¹⁷ I will rescue you^(A) from your own people and from the Gentiles.^(B) I am sending you to them ¹⁸ to open their eyes^(C) and turn them from darkness to light,^(D) and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins^(E) and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’^(F)

⁹ But you are a chosen people,^(A) a royal priesthood,^(B) a holy nation,^(C) God’s special possession,^(D) that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.^(E)

¹² and giving joyful thanks to the Father,^(A) who has qualified you^[a] to share in the inheritance^(B) of his holy people in the kingdom of light.^{(C) 13} For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness^(D) and brought us into the kingdom^(E) of the Son he loves,^(F)
