²³ “You are from below,” he told them, “I am from above.^(A) You are of this world; ^(B) I am not of this world.^(C)

Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

13 Before the Passover Festival, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world to the Father.^(A) Having loved his own who were in the world,^(B) he loved them to the end.

¹⁹ If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen^(A) you out of it, the world hates you.

¹⁴ I have given them your word. The world hated^(A) them because they are not of the world,^(B) just as I am not of the world.^{(C) 15} I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.^{(D) 16} They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.^(E)

³⁶ “My kingdom^(A) is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world,^(B) my servants^(C) would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is,^[a] my kingdom is not from here.”^(D)
