World English Bible

4 they told him, “Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such women.Leviticus 20:10; Deuteronomy 22:22 What then do you say about her?” 6 They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of.

But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

4 and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women.(A) Now what do you say?” 6 They were using this question as a trap,(B) in order to have a basis for accusing him.(C)

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.
