^44 (A)You are of ^(B)your father the devil, and ^(C)you want to do the desires of your father. ^(D)He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because ^(E)there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells ^[a]a lie, he ^(F)speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar and the father of ^[b]lies.

¹⁰ and said, “^[a]You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you ^(A)son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not stop making crooked ^(B)the straight ways of the Lord?

¹⁰ By this the ^(A)children of God and the ^(B)children of the devil are obvious: ^[a]anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who ^(C)does not love his ^(D)brother and sister.
