7 And when they persisted in asking him, straightening up he said[a] to them, “The one of you without sin, let him throw the first stone at her!” 8 And bending down again, he wrote on the ground. 9 Now when they[b] heard it,[c] being convicted by their conscience,[d] they began to depart,[e] one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus[f] was left alone—and the woman who was in their midst.

7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone(A) at her.”(B) 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there.
