²⁹ The next day he *saw Jesus coming to him, and *said, “Behold, ^(A)the Lamb of God who ^(B)takes away the sin of the world!

²⁵ whom God displayed publicly as ^(A)a ^[a]propitiation ^[b](B)in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, ^[c]because in God’s merciful ^(C)restraint He ^(D)let the sins previously committed go unpunished;

³ For ^(A)what the Law could not do, ^[a](B)weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in ^(C)the likeness of ^[b]sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh,

¹⁴ how much more will ^(A)the blood of Christ, who through ^[a](B)the eternal Spirit ^(C)offered Himself without blemish to God, ^(D)cleanse your conscience from ^(E)dead works to serve ^(F)the living God?

¹⁵ For this reason ^(G)He is the ^(H)mediator of a ^(I)new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the violations that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been ^(J)called may ^(K)receive the promise of ^(L)the eternal inheritance. ¹⁶ For where there is a ^[b]covenant, there must of necessity ^[c]be the death of the one who made it. ¹⁷ For a ^[d]covenant is valid only when people are dead, ^[e]for it is never in force while the one who made it lives. ¹⁸ Therefore even the first covenant was not inaugurated without blood. ¹⁹ For when every commandment had been ^(M)spoken by Moses to all the people according to the Law, ^(N)he took the ^(O)blood of the calves and the goats, with ^(P)water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both ^(Q)the book itself and all the people, ²⁰ saying, “^(R)This is the blood of the covenant which God commanded you.” ²¹ And in the same way he ^(S)sprinkled both the ^[f]tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry with the blood. ²² And ^(T)almost all things are cleansed with blood, according to the Law, and ^(U)without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

¹⁸ knowing that you were not ^[a](A)redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your ^(B)futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, ¹⁹ but with precious ^(C)blood, as of a ^(D)lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. ²⁰ For He was ^(E)foreknown before ^(F)the foundation of the world, but has ^(G)appeared ^[b]in these last times ^(H)for the sake of you ²¹ who through Him are ^(I)believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and ^(J)gave Him glory, so that your faith and ^(K)hope are in God.
