³⁵ By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love^(A) for one another.”

⁵ But whoever keeps His word,^(A) truly in him the love of God is perfected.^[a] This is how we know we are in Him:^(B)

¹⁹ This is how we will know we belong to the truth^(A) and will convince our conscience in His presence,

²⁴ The one who keeps His commands remains in Him,^(A) and He in him. And the way we know that He remains in us^(B) is from the Spirit^(C) He has given us.

² This is how you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has^[a] come in the flesh^(A) is from God.^(B)

⁶ We are from God. Anyone who knows God listens to us;^(A) anyone who is not from God does not listen to us. From this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of deception.^(B)

¹³ This is how we know that we remain in Him^(A) and He in us: He has given assurance to us from His Spirit.^(B)

² This is how we know that we love God’s children when we love God and obey^[a] His commands.
