²⁶ When Jesus saw His mother and the disciple He loved^(A) standing there, He said to His mother, “Woman, here is your son.”

² So she ran to Simon Peter^(A) and to the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb,^(B) and we don’t know where they have put Him!”

⁷ Therefore the disciple, the one Jesus loved, said to Peter, “It is the Lord!”^(A)

When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he tied his outer garment around him^[a] (for he was stripped) and plunged into the sea.

Correcting a False Report

²⁰ So Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved^(A) following them. That disciple was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is the one that’s going to betray You?”^(B)
