^31 (A)but these are written so that you may ^(B)believe that Jesus is the Christ, ^(C)the Son of God, and that by believing ^(D)you may have life ^(E)in his name.

^9 (A)If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God ^(B)that he has borne concerning his Son. ¹⁰ Whoever believes in the Son of God ^(C)has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God ^(D)has made him a liar, ^(E)because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. ¹¹ And this is the testimony, that God gave us ^(F)eternal life, and ^(G)this life is in his Son. ^12 (H)Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

¹³ I write ^(I)these things to you who ^(J)believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.

¹⁵ that whoever believes ^(A)in him ^(B)may have eternal life.^[a]

^36 (A)Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; ^(B)whoever does not obey the Son shall not ^(C)see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
