51 Now while he was already going down, his slaves met him, saying that his boy lives. 52 So he inquired from them the hour at which he got better. So they said to him that “The fever left him yesterday at the seventh[a] hour”. 53 Then the father knew that it was at that hour at which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives”. And he believed[b], he and his whole household.

- John 4:52 That is, 1 p.m. Jewish time, meaning these slaves met the official that evening after sundown (which begins the next day); or, 7 p.m. Roman time, meaning the official spent the night due to the late hour and met these slaves the next day.
- John 4:53 Note how this proves what Jesus said in v 48, and stands in contrast to v 41-42.
