I called to the Lord in my distress,(A)
and he answered me.
I cried out for help from deep inside[a] Sheol;(B)
you heard my voice.(C)
When you threw me into the depths,(D)
into the heart of the seas,(E)
the current[b] overcame me.
All your breakers and your billows swept over me.(F)
And I said, “I have been banished(G)
from your sight,(H)
yet I will look[c] once more
toward your holy temple.”(I)
The water engulfed me up to the neck;[d](J)
the watery depths overcame me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.(K)
I sank to the foundations of the mountains,(L)
the earth’s gates shut behind me forever!(M)
Then you raised my life(N) from the Pit, Lord my God!(O)
