I called to the Lord in my distress,(A)
and He answered me.
I cried out for help in the belly of Sheol;(B)
You heard my voice.(C)
You threw me into the depths,(D)
into the heart of the seas,(E)
and the current[a] overcame me.
All Your breakers and Your billows swept over me.(F)
But I said: I have been banished(G)
from Your sight,(H)
yet I will look once more[b]
toward Your holy temple.(I)
The waters engulfed me up to the neck;[c](J)
the watery depths overcame me;
seaweed was wrapped around my head.(K)
I sank to the foundations of the mountains;(L)
the earth with its prison bars closed behind me forever!(M)
But You raised my life(N) from the Pit, Lord my God!(O)
