4 Jonah set out on the first day of his walk in the city and proclaimed,(A) “In 40 days Nineveh will be demolished!” 5 The men of Nineveh believed in God.[a] They proclaimed a fast(B) and dressed in sackcloth—from the greatest of them to the least.
6 When word reached the king of Nineveh, he got up from his throne, took off his royal robe, put on sackcloth,(C) and sat in ashes.

Jonah 3:4-6
New International Version
4 Jonah began by going a day’s journey into the city, proclaiming,(A) “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” 5 The Ninevites believed God. A fast was proclaimed, and all of them, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth.(B)
6 When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.(C)
