6 Then the word reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, laid aside his mantle from him, (A)covered himself with sackcloth, and sat on the [a]ashes. 7 And he (B)cried out and said,
“In Nineveh by the [b]decree of the king and his nobles[c]: Do not let man, [d]animal, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat, and do not let them drink water.
8 But both man and [e]animal must be covered with sackcloth; and let [f]men (C)call on God with their strength that each may (D)turn from his evil way and from the violence which is in [g]his hands.

6 When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust.(A) 7 This is the proclamation he issued in Nineveh:
