2 Then he (A)prayed to the Lord and said, “Please Lord, was this not [a]what I said when I was still in my own country? Therefore in anticipation of this I (B)fled to Tarshish, since I knew that You are a (C)gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abundant in mercy, and One who relents of disaster. 3 So now, Lord, please (D)take my [b]life from me, for death is (E)better to me than life.” 4 But the Lord said, “Do you have a good reason to be angry?”

I knew(A) that you are a gracious(B) and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love,(C) a God who relents(D) from sending calamity.(E) 3 Now, Lord, take away my life,(F) for it is better for me to die(G) than to live.”(H)

3 Therefore now, O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
4 Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry?
