⁸ As the sun was rising, God appointed a scorching east wind.^(A) The sun beat down so much on Jonah’s head^(B) that he almost fainted, and he wanted to die. He said, “It’s better for me to die than to live.”^(C)

⁵⁵ And when the south wind is blowing, you say, ‘It’s going to be a scorcher!’ and it is.

¹¹ For the sun rises with its scorching heat and dries up the grass; its flower falls off, and its beautiful appearance is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will wither away while pursuing his activities.^(A)
