I was 40 years old when Moses the Lord’s servant sent me from Kadesh-barnea to scout out the land. I brought back a report to him of what I really thought. My companions who had gone up with me made the people’s heart melt. But I remained loyal to the Lord my God. So Moses pledged on that day, ‘The land on which you have walked will forever be a legacy for you and your children. This is because you remained loyal to the Lord my God.’

I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea(A) to explore the land.(B) And I brought him back a report according to my convictions,(C) but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear.(D) I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.(E) So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance(F) and that of your children(G) forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’[a]
