Joshua 14:7-9

⁷I was forty years old when Moses, the Lord’s servant, sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy on the land and I brought back to him an honest report.^[a] ⁸My countrymen^[b] who accompanied^[c] me frightened the people,^[d] but I remained loyal to the Lord my God.^[e] ⁹That day Moses made this solemn promise:^[f] ‘Surely the land on which you walked^[g] will belong to you and your descendants permanently,^[h] for you remained loyal to the Lord your God.’

⁷I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh Barnea^(A) to explore the land.^(B) And I brought him back a report according to my convictions,^(C) ⁸but my fellow Israelites who went up with me made the hearts of the people melt in fear.^(D) I, however, followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.^(E) ⁹So on that day Moses swore to me, ‘The land on which your feet have walked will be your inheritance^(F) and that of your children^(G) forever, because you have followed the Lord my God wholeheartedly.’^[a]
