Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Makir, son of Manasseh, had no sons. He had only daughters. Their names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah and Tirzah. They went to see Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders. They said, ‘The Lord told Moses to give us part of the land. We must have land like the sons of other families.’ Joshua agreed and he gave land to them, like the other families. That is why Manasseh's tribe received ten parts of the land, as well as Gilead and Bashan on the east side of the Jordan.

Now Zelophehad son of Hepher,(A) the son of Gilead, the son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons but only daughters,(B) whose names were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milkah and Tirzah. They went to Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders and said, “The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our relatives.” So Joshua gave them an inheritance along with the brothers of their father, according to the Lord’s command.(C) Manasseh’s share consisted of ten tracts of land besides Gilead and Bashan east of the Jordan,(D)
