Now (A)if the avenger of blood pursues him, then they shall not deliver the manslayer into his hand, because he struck his neighbor without premeditation and did not hate him beforehand. He shall dwell in that city (B)until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the one who is high priest in those days. Then the manslayer shall [a]return to his own city and to his own house, to the city from which he fled.’”

So they [b]set apart (C)Kedesh in [c]Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali and Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in (D)the hill country of Judah.

If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit, the elders must not surrender the fugitive, because the fugitive killed their neighbor unintentionally and without malice aforethought. They are to stay in that city until they have stood trial before the assembly(A) and until the death of the high priest who is serving at that time. Then they may go back to their own home in the town from which they fled.”

So they set apart Kedesh(B) in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem(C) in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba(D) (that is, Hebron(E)) in the hill country of Judah.(F)
