Joshua 6:25-27

Good News Translation

²⁵^(A)But Joshua spared the lives of the prostitute Rahab and all her relatives, because she had hidden the two spies that he had sent to Jericho. (Her descendants have lived in Israel to this day.)

²⁶^(B)At this time Joshua issued a solemn warning: “Anyone who tries to rebuild the city of Jericho will be under the Lord's curse.

Whoever lays the foundation will lose his oldest son;
Whoever builds the gates will lose his youngest.”

²⁷So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread through the whole country.

New International Version

²⁵But Joshua spared^(A) Rahab the prostitute,^(B) with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho^(C)—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

²⁶At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath:^(D) “Cursed^(E) before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho:

“At the cost of his firstborn son
he will lay its foundations;
at the cost of his youngest
he will set up its gates.”^(F)

²⁷So the Lord was with Joshua,^(G) and his fame spread^(H) throughout the land.
