25 But Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, along with her family and everyone who was with her. Her family[a] has lived in Israel ever since, because she hid the scouts whom Joshua sent to observe Jericho.

Joshua Curses the Rebuilding of Jericho

26 Then Joshua made everyone[b] take the following oath at that time. He said:

“Cursed in the presence of the Lord is the man
    who restores and rebuilds this city of Jericho!
He will lay its foundation at the cost of[c] his firstborn,
    and at the cost of[d] his youngest he will set up its gates.”

27 So the Lord was with Joshua, and as a result, Joshua’s[e] reputation spread throughout the land.

25 But Joshua spared(A) Rahab the prostitute,(B) with her family and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent as spies to Jericho(C)—and she lives among the Israelites to this day.

26 At that time Joshua pronounced this solemn oath:(D) “Cursed(E) before the Lord is the one who undertakes to rebuild this city, Jericho:

“At the cost of his firstborn son
    he will lay its foundations;
at the cost of his youngest
    he will set up its gates.”(F)

27 So the Lord was with Joshua,(G) and his fame spread(H) throughout the land.
