14 So the men of Israel took some of their food. They did not ask the Lord what they should do. 15 Joshua made peace with them and made an agreement with them, to let them live. And the leaders of the people made a promise to them.
16 But three days after they had made an agreement with them, they heard that they were neighbors who lived in their land.

14 The Israelites sampled their provisions but did not inquire(A) of the Lord. 15 Then Joshua made a treaty of peace(B) with them to let them live,(C) and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath.
16 Three days after they made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites heard that they were neighbors, living near(D) them.
