2 They joined together to fight against Joshua and the Israelites.
3 Some Hivite people who lived in Gibeon heard how Joshua had won against Jericho and Ai. 4 So they had a clever idea. Some men took old bags of food and broken bags of wine that had holes in them. They put these things on their donkeys.

2 they came together to wage war against Joshua and Israel.
3 However, when the people of Gibeon(A) heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,(B) 4 they resorted to a ruse: They went as a delegation whose donkeys were loaded[a] with worn-out sacks and old wineskins, cracked and mended.
