⁸ They said to Joshua, “We are your servants.”

Then Joshua asked them, “Who are you and where do you come from?”

¹¹ So our elders and all the inhabitants of our land told us, ‘Take provisions with you for the journey; go and meet them and say, “We are your servants. Please make a treaty with us.”’

⁴ Then the king of Israel answered, “Just as you say, my lord the king: I am yours, along with all that I have.”

³² So they dressed with sackcloth around their waists and ropes around their heads, went to the king of Israel, and said, “Your servant Ben-hadad says, ‘Please spare my life.’”

So he said, “Is he still alive? He is my brother.”

¹⁴ So Hezekiah king of Judah sent word to the king of Assyria at Lachish,^(A) saying, “I have done wrong;^(B) withdraw from me. Whatever you demand from me, I will pay.” The king of Assyria demanded 11 tons^[a] of silver and one ton^[b] of gold from King Hezekiah of Judah.
