⁹ Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab,^(A) set out to fight against Israel. He sent for Balaam son of Beor to curse you, ¹⁰ but I would not listen to Balaam. Instead, he repeatedly blessed you, and I delivered you from his hand.

¹⁴ But I have a few things against you. You have some there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who taught Balak to place a stumbling block^[a] in front of the Israelites: to eat meat sacrificed to idols and to commit sexual immorality.^[b]
