27 (A)Having taken what Micah had made and his priest, they marched against Laish, a quiet and trusting people; they put them to the sword and destroyed the city by fire. 28 No one came to their aid, since the city was far from Sidon and they had no dealings with the Arameans; the city was in the valley that belongs to Beth-rehob. The Danites then rebuilt the city and occupied it. 29 They named it Dan after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel.(B) But Laish was the name of the city formerly.

New International Version
27 Then they took what Micah had made, and his priest, and went on to Laish, against a people at peace and secure.(A) They attacked them with the sword and burned(B) down their city.(C) 28 There was no one to rescue them because they lived a long way from Sidon(D) and had no relationship with anyone else. The city was in a valley near Beth Rehob.(E)
The Danites rebuilt the city and settled there. 29 They named it Dan(F) after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city used to be called Laish.(G)
