Judges 1:23-25
Amplified Bible
23 The house of Joseph spied out Bethel (now the name of the city was formerly Luz). 24 The spies saw a man coming out of the city and they said to him, “Please show us the entrance to the city and we will treat you kindly.” 25 So he showed them the entrance to the city, and they struck the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go free.

23 When they sent men to spy out Bethel (formerly called Luz),(A) 24 the spies saw a man coming out of the city and they said to him, “Show us how to get into the city and we will see that you are treated well.(B)” 25 So he showed them, and they put the city to the sword but spared(C) the man and his whole family.
