Shamgar

³¹ After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath,^(A) who struck down six hundred^(B) Philistines^(C) with an oxgoad. He too saved Israel.

10 After the time of Abimelek,^(A) a man of Issachar^(B) named Tola son of Puah,^(C) the son of Dodo, rose to save^(D) Israel. He lived in Shamir,^(E) in the hill country of Ephraim.

¹² the Sidonians, the Amalekites^(A) and the Maonites^[a](B) oppressed you^(C) and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands? ¹³ But you have forsaken^(D) me and served other gods,^(E) so I will no longer save you.

² Jephthah answered, “I and my people were engaged in a great struggle with the Ammonites, and although I called, you didn’t save me out of their hands. ³ When I saw that you wouldn’t help, I took my life in my hands^(A) and crossed over to fight the Ammonites, and the Lord gave me the victory^(B) over them. Now why have you come up today to fight me?”

⁵ You will become pregnant and have a son^(A) whose head is never to be touched by a razor^(B) because the boy is to be a Nazirite,^(C) dedicated to God from the womb. He will take the lead^(D) in delivering Israel from the hands of the Philistines.”

⁹ But when they cried out^(A) to the Lord, he raised up for them a deliverer,^(B) Othniel^(C) son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, who saved them.
