4 These people were a test to the new generation of Israel, to see whether they would obey the commandments the Lord had given to them through Moses.
5 So Israel lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Amorites, and Jebusites. 6 But instead of destroying them, the people of Israel intermarried with them. The young men of Israel took their girls as wives, and the Israeli girls married their men. And soon Israel was worshiping their gods.

4 They were left to test(A) the Israelites to see whether they would obey the Lord’s commands, which he had given their ancestors through Moses.
5 The Israelites lived(B) among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites,(C) Hivites and Jebusites.(D) 6 They took their daughters(E) in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.(F)
