3 The children of Israel cried to Yahweh, for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and he mightily oppressed the children of Israel for twenty years. 4 Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lappidoth, judged Israel at that time. 5 She lived under Deborah’s palm tree between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the children of Israel came up to her for judgment.

3 Because he had nine hundred chariots fitted with iron(A) and had cruelly oppressed(B) the Israelites for twenty years, they cried to the Lord for help.
4 Now Deborah,(C) a prophet,(D) the wife of Lappidoth, was leading[a] Israel at that time. 5 She held court(E) under the Palm of Deborah between Ramah(F) and Bethel(G) in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites went up to her to have their disputes decided.
