¹⁷ Gideon replied, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, give me a sign^(A) that it is really you talking to me.

³⁷ look, I will place a wool fleece^(A) on the threshing floor.^(B) If there is dew only on the fleece and all the ground is dry, then I will know^(C) that you will save Israel by my hand, as you said.”

³⁹ Then Gideon said to God, “Do not be angry with me. Let me make just one more request.^(A) Allow me one more test with the fleece, but this time make the fleece dry and let the ground be covered with dew.”

¹¹ “Ask the Lord your God for a sign,^(A) whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.^(B)”

¹⁴ Therefore the Lord himself will give you^[a] a sign:^(A) The virgin^[b](B) will conceive and give birth to a son,^(C) and^[c] will call him Immanuel.^[d](D)

²² Hezekiah had asked, “What will be the sign^(A) that I will go up to the temple of the Lord?”
