3 When Israel had sown, then came up the Midianites, the Amalekites, and they of the [a]East, and came upon them,
4 And camped by them, and destroyed the fruit of the earth, even till thou come unto [b]Gaza, and left no food for Israel, neither sheep, nor ox, nor ass.
5 For they went up, and their cattle, and came with their tents as grasshoppers in multitude: so that they and their camels were without number: and they came into the land to destroy it.

New International Version
3 Whenever the Israelites planted their crops, the Midianites, Amalekites(A) and other eastern peoples(B) invaded the country. 4 They camped on the land and ruined the crops(C) all the way to Gaza(D) and did not spare a living thing for Israel, neither sheep nor cattle nor donkeys. 5 They came up with their livestock and their tents like swarms of locusts.(E) It was impossible to count them or their camels;(F) they invaded the land to ravage it.
