7 Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and encamped beside the spring of ^[a]Harod: and the camp of Midian was on the north side of them, ^[b]by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

² And Jehovah said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me. ³ Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and ^[c]depart from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

⁴ And Jehovah said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go. ⁵ So he brought down the people unto the water: and Jehovah said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink. ⁶ And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water. ⁷ And Jehovah said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thy hand; and let all the people go every man unto his place.

¹³ Enter ye in by the narrow gate: for wide ^[a]is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many are they that enter in thereby. ^14 [b]For narrow is the gate, and straitened the way, that leadeth unto life, and few are they that find it.

¹⁵ Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves.

² to the end that ye be not quickly shaken from your mind, nor yet be troubled, either by spirit, or by word, or by epistle as from us, as that the day of the Lord is just at hand; ³ let no man beguile you in any wise: for it will not be, except the falling away come first, and the man of ^[a]sin be revealed, the son of perdition, ⁴ he that opposeth and exalteth himself against all that is called God or ^[b]that is worshipped; so that he sitteth in the ^[c]temple of God, setting himself forth as God.

²³ to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, ²⁴ and to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaketh better ^[a]than that of Abel. ²⁵ See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not when they refused him that warned them on earth, much more shall not we escape who turn away from him ^[b]that warneth from heaven: ²⁶ whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, ^[c]Yet once more will I make to tremble not the earth only, but also the heaven. ²⁷ And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain. ²⁸ Wherefore, receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have ^[d]grace, whereby we may offer service well-pleasing to God with ^[e]reverence and awe: ²⁹ for our God is a consuming fire.

⁷ Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith Jehovah of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered; and I will turn my hand upon the little ones. ⁸ And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith Jehovah, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. ⁹ And I will bring the third part into the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried. They shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people; and they shall say, Jehovah is my God.
