¶ And Gideon came to Jordan to pass over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, weary, yet pursuing them.

And he said unto the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, [a]morsels of bread unto the people [b]that follow me (for they be weary) that I may follow after Zebah and Zalmunna Kings of Midian.

And the princes of Succoth said, Are the [c]hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thine hands, that we should give bread unto thine army?

Gideon and his three hundred men, exhausted yet keeping up the pursuit, came to the Jordan(A) and crossed it. He said to the men of Sukkoth,(B) “Give my troops some bread; they are worn out,(C) and I am still pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna,(D) the kings of Midian.”

But the officials of Sukkoth(E) said, “Do you already have the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna in your possession? Why should we give bread(F) to your troops?”(G)
