16 “Now therefore, if you have dealt in [a]truth and integrity in making Abimelech king, and if you have dealt well with (A)Jerubbaal and his house, and [b]have dealt with him [c]as he deserved— 17 for my father fought for you and [d]risked his life and delivered you from the hand of Midian; 18 but you have risen against my father’s house today and have killed (B)his sons, seventy men, on one stone, and have made Abimelech, (C)the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your [e]relative—

16 “Have you acted honorably and in good faith by making Abimelek king? Have you been fair to Jerub-Baal and his family? Have you treated him as he deserves? 17 Remember that my father fought for you and risked(A) his life to rescue you from the hand of Midian. 18 But today you have revolted against my father’s family. You have murdered his seventy sons(B) on a single stone and have made Abimelek, the son of his female slave, king over the citizens of Shechem because he is related to you.
